What is the Word on the Street? 2012-2013
In a school-wide effort, Lake View School will be learning a new vocabulary word each week- across all grades!
This "word of the week" will be incorporated into each classroom and all of our teachers will work on the word throughout the week with students.
Our students will be asked "What is the word on the street?" They will be encouraged to name the word, define it, and use it in a sentence. Most importantly, they will be encouraged to use it while speaking and writing!
This initiative utilizes high utility words (tier 2) students encounter while reading. It is a fun, interactive, and beneficial activity for all students.
We encourage families to help us by using these words at home each week. Please click on the below links for the word list and sample strategies for building your child's vocabulary.
